Outre quelques m\u00e9taux purs sp\u00e9cifiques, comme le b\u00e9ryllium et le tungst\u00e8ne, les oxydes, nitrures et carbures denses ont \u00e9t\u00e9 principalement \u00e9tudi\u00e9s. Les techniques de rev\u00eatement pour la pr\u00e9paration de barri\u00e8res parfaites et bien adh\u00e9rentes sont \u00e9videmment aussi importantes que le choix du mat\u00e9riau lui-m\u00eame. Les techniques les plus attrayantes sont celles qui permettent la formation d'une couche ad hoc par simple oxydation. D'autres m\u00e9thodes n\u00e9cessitent des environnements gazeux sp\u00e9cifiques avec des champs \u00e9lectriques et magn\u00e9tiques puissants, ce qui peut repr\u00e9senter une limite pour la couverture uniforme des couches ad hoc sur des zones \u00e9tendues et irr\u00e9guli\u00e8res. L'\u00e9valuation des performances de la barri\u00e8re obtenue est une autre t\u00e2che difficile. Plusieurs nouvelles m\u00e9thodes, qui peuvent tracer les isotopes d'hydrog\u00e8ne en vrac \u00e0 de tr\u00e8s faibles concentrations, \u00e9chouent souvent dans la d\u00e9termination de leur mobilit\u00e9. En outre, elles ne r\u00e9v\u00e8lent pas le r\u00f4le des d\u00e9fauts de la barri\u00e8re. La m\u00e9thode classique du taux de perm\u00e9ation des gaz \u00e0 travers des membranes enduites reste l'option la plus fiable pour d\u00e9terminer l'efficacit\u00e9 r\u00e9elle de la barri\u00e8re de perm\u00e9ation \u00e0 l'hydrog\u00e8ne (HPB). \u00c0 temp\u00e9rature \u00e9lev\u00e9e, le taux de perm\u00e9ation de l'hydrog\u00e8ne est enregistr\u00e9 sur la face aval d'une membrane enduite expos\u00e9e \u00e0 une pression d'hydrog\u00e8ne nettement plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e en amont.
